“Can I ask you something?”

The above is a question that appears regularly in my DMs.
As an admitted snarky bitch, I sometimes like to reply with “you just did.” Other times, I just say “sure.” And still, there are times when I answer back with “if you were comfortable enough to ask that, then you are comfortable enough to ask your question.”
I will admit that this particular question grinds my gears a little more than it should. I mean, the person is being courteous enough to ask my permission, so why should it bother me so much?
