Facebook Jail : A Cautionary Tale
I am becoming quite the little Facebook Jailbird.
Like many, many others my personal Facebook account has been hit with several suspensions for things that I posted, long in the past.
I have also been nabbed for calling out blatant misogyny; my comments, which have typically consisted of me seeking clarity by repeating questionable words back to a sexist commenter, have gotten the axe.
The original words, though, are curiously allowed to remain.
Inconsistency of the holy Community Standards is only one of the problems.
Starting with a warning, and then a 24 hour stint, chronic Community Standard Violators see more and more time away from their beloved accounts with each sanction.
At this rate, my next ban will get me a week in Time Out.
Repeat offenders may even have their accounts disabled entirely, and I am already a Repeat Offender according to Zuckerberg et al.
My most recent suspension was for bullying.
It was playful banter between me and a friend, where I started a sentence with the word “Btch.”
Yes, spelled exactly like that.
The i was omitted in a (very lame) effort to NOT catch yet another ban.
