When did DMs get so…aggressive?!
The electronic age has certainly done a lot to make communication efforts relatively easy.
Every kind of social networking app or website has a built in messaging system; most cell phones have at least two texting apps built right in; And of course, there is still old school email.
It is crazy easy to get in touch with someone these days, or is it?
In my opinion, it is actually too easy, and much of the time it has become outright aggressive.
Let me explain.
And before I do, please do not take this as a passive aggressive request for my friends, family, associates or readers to stop inboxing me! Anyone who really knows me, knows that I prefer texts to calls, and DMs are most of the time, a good choice as well.
That is, assuming that you have something to actually say.
You see, I absolutely hate mindless chatting. I do not have the time for it. If you DM me because you are bored or you are “trying to get to know me better”, let me just be honest. It won’t work. I am not online to chat.
Back in the day, we had actual chat rooms, and that was a nice way to get in some good electronic conversation with likeminded people.
I do not know if chat rooms still exist or not, but they really should. It would lighten the load in many, many direct messaging apps, where countless messages sent on the daily, go to die.
